According to the latest results of the FDU poll, which looks at the views of likely Republican primary voters nationally, Trump’s legal woes are leading his supporters to be more open to other candidates, even as he continues to hold a wide lead over all of them.

Former President Trump is facing four federal charges involving his purported efforts to retain power after the 2020 election and his role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. New polling by the Economist/YouGov finds that about half of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of the decision to charge Trump, including 86% of Democrats and 16% of Republicans. Many Americans don't think that Trump can get a fair trial in Washington, D.C., including 10% of Democrats and 73% of Republicans.

The latest jobs report showed a continued increase in the number of jobs, but many Americans don’t see an improving employment picture, new polling from the Economist/YouGov finds. Republicans are especially skeptical of gains in employment. They also are more likely than Democrats to say they and their family are worse off financially than they were a year ago: 60% of Republicans say this, compared to 24% of Democrats.

Most U.S. adults (81%) say Martin Luther King Jr. has had a positive impact on the country, with 47% saying King has had a very positive impact. About half of adults (52%) say efforts to ensure equal rights for all people haven’t gone far enough, about a quarter (27%) say efforts have been about right, while 20% say they’ve gone too far.
