Most Americans oppose abortion laws that let private citizens sue, new poll says
Chloe Jones, PBS NewsHour
The type of anti-abortion law enacted by the state of Texas last month is deeply unpopular with Americans, according to a new poll from the PBS NewsHour, NPR and Marist. The provisions in Texas' restrictive abortion law are not popular, an NPR poll finds

A clear majority of Americans opposes key provisions of the controversial new Texas abortion law, including most Republicans, the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds. The law, signed by GOP Gov. Greg Abbott, bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, which is before many women know they're pregnant. It also allows private citizens to sue abortion providers or anyone who helps a woman obtain an abortion.
