As debt battle looms, 55% of Americans say GOP House is 'dysfunctional' Andrew Romano, Yahoo News By a massive 30-point margin, Americans say Republicans’ protracted battle earlier this month to elect a new House speaker is a sign that “Congress is dysfunctional” (55%) rather than “functioning as intended” (25%), according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll. Ipsos Core Political Survey Chris Jackson & Annaleise Azevedo Lohr, Ipsos President Biden’s approval rating remains at 40% this week. When asked about other leaders, Americans are most likely to disapprove of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (53%), followed by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (42%). A majority of Americans support making it more difficult for immigrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Haiti to claim asylum (54%), and they are least likely to support reducing spending on Social Security and Medicare (21%).
