The latest Berkeley IGS Poll finds voters in this state holding very different views of two of the state’s most prominent female politicians, Kamala Harris and Karen Bass, who according to media reports are considered as top contenders for governor of California and mayor of Los Angeles, respectively, in next year’s 2026 elections. Harris has nearly universal name recognition and is viewed more positively than negatively overall. By contrast, Bass is viewed more negatively than positively by voters both statewide as well as by voters in the city of Los Angeles.

In the Democratic primary race for New York City mayor, Andrew Cuomo is the first choice of nearly four in ten likely Democratic primary voters, including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate. Zohran Mamdani places second with all other candidates receiving single-digit support. When calculating ranked choice voting round-by-round estimates, Cuomo breaks the threshold in the fifth round, receiving 53%.
