The public expects the new tax and spending law will do more to benefit the wealthy while harming the middle class and lower-income people

President Trump signed the tax and spending law, also known as “One Big Beautiful Bill,” on July 4th. Overall, a majority of adults believe the bill will do more to help wealthy people. People are about twice as likely to say the bill will hurt than say that it will help people like them and middle-class Americans. A majority think the bill will harm low-income people.

Republican elected officials are promoting their recently passed tax and spending bill as a win for working Americans, but a new survey shows that Americans broadly see it as a win for the wealthy. About two-thirds of U.S. adults expect the new tax law will help the rich, according to the poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

As artificial intelligence tools continue to evolve rapidly, so do Americans’ feelings about AI. YouGov polls have periodically asked Americans about their concerns related to AI. The most recent polling finds that compared to March 2025, an increased share of Americans are concerned about AI causing the end of the human race. Additionally, more now believe AI’s impact on society will be negative than did in March, and slightly higher shares say they are very concerned about particular potential impacts of AI.
